![]() ![]() Talking about the film, the film sets its tone right from the jail scene where Athreya gets introduced to a father of a daughter whose body lies near railway track. It’s not going to be a ‘Before Sunrise’ type of collaboration right away but we’ll get to it. Instead of heroes asking to include a mass fight or song sequence to pull audience. These are the actors who get involved in the creative process of the film and make a film a better one by lending their perspective. The latter worked in the screenplay department, to be precise. First it was Rakshith Shetty in ‘Avane Srimannarayana’ and now Naveen Polishetty in ‘Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya’. I’m starting to like the trend of these new gen actors being associated with writing part of the film. So, it’s an out and out Naveen Polishetty show. Other characters like the reporter friend Sirish (Chanakya Tejas) who just comes and goes at important junction, heroine Sneha (Shruti Sharma) whom we don’t even know why she exists and worst of all, Sub Inspector Vamsi (Ramdutt) who takes command from Athreya and just acts as driver were all of no impact. At least the burger eating (dig at Brad Pitt from Oceans) police man could have given some comic conclusion instead of just throwing away the burger at camera. Apart from Agent there were no memorable characters, that’s one of the weak points of the films. The humor slowly goes down and the film starts gripping. His optimism was infectious and not irritating. ![]() The movie starts getting interesting once he gets in the jail. It could have got the movie trimmed at least by half an hour. Few digs at Sherlock and some other films were decent and Naveen Polishetty does a decent job but it need not have elongated so long. Because ‘Agent Sai Srinivasa Athreya’ didn’t have the technical expertise which ‘Avane Srimannarayana’ did, which made the former look like a time pass movie in the initial stage. What worked in ‘Avane Srimannarayana’ doesn’t work here. That leads to an enormous amount of needless comic situations, dialogues and a song. The first half an hour or so of the film was a total waste of time with the hero trying to be too charming.
